I’ve never felt comfortable asking people for money. In my overly optimistic mind, I thought I could fund this little project through my personal purse. Well this little project has turned into something much bigger, and my wallet is now empty.

The beautiful thing about this project is that it is truly a community supported idea. Everyone that has helped, contributed and supported this idea have all lived in our neighborhood. Rather than seeking funds outside of our community, I believe it will give us all a sense of ownership and pride if the money comes from you, our neighbors. The reason we started this Market was because the people here in Woodbine/Flatrock voiced a need for fresh, local food. Please help donate so that we can really make this Market a success. All the money donated will go to advertising in English and Spanish using fliers, posters, banners, yard signage, maintain our online webpage, and bring awareness to the community about the Farmers’ Market. I thank you in advance for your generous support of bringing something great to our area of Nashville.  Woodbine really is the greatest community in Nashville!

Meeting with Metro Parks

1 Jun

Little did I know how much work was going to go into this venture to bring a Farmers’ Market to Nashville. Little did I know how much more work it was going to take having it at Coleman Park Community Center. Being at a Nashville goverment run park requires approval and permission for the Board of Metro Parks, and several guidelines that must be followed. As I walked into the Parks and Recreation building today to present my carefully organized proposal, I felt like a nerdy 13 year old about to present a project to a class of all popular seniors. I was clearly “fresh meat”, but to my surprise noone seemed to notice. (Well maybe they did, but the good thing about adults is they can’t act like they knew I was a nerdy little freshman). I stood up at the podium, read my narrative of the Woodbine Farmers’ Market goals, and expressed what a great area Woodbine was. I felt so proud of our community, the way we have come together to embrace where we live and band together to bring great things to our neighborhood. Quickly after I finished, the Board seemed pleased and expressed enthusiam and support and all in favor, voted yes to approve us. Woodbine, it is official, we will have a Farmers’ Market at Coleman Park Community Center starting in July on Tuesday evenings from 4-7pm.

Flatrock Music and Arts Festival

3rd Annual ‘Hands Together In Flatrock Music & Arts Festival

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

10AM – 4PM

Coleman Park Community Center

Don’t miss this amazing event! This truly is one of the best cultural events that Nashville has to offer. The key objective of the festival is to bring all members of the community together – through music, arts and food – to celebrate diversities and similarities between all residents of the South Nashville neighborhood.
Music

The headlining band will be BlackHawk and they go on about 1pm. The music will reflect the beautiful culture diversity in the community. My personal favorite band, Like Candy Red will also be playing at 3pm.

Arts

Over 50 different visual artists from many different backgrounds will have the opportunity to showcase their vision, in a wide variety of mediums including handmade jewelry, textiles, paintings and drawings, etc.

Children’s Activities

This year’s festival includes a variety of activities for our younger attendees, including spin art, a dress-up photo booth, and making art with recyclable materials!

Woodbine Farmers Market

Woodbine Farmers’ Market will have a booth with t-shirts for sale and info about the market. Stop by and make sure to sign up on the e-mail list and show your support!
