Banjamin’s Elixer

1 Aug

It’s always hard to gauge how spicy to make a dish. Some people like it mild, some medium and some hot. As a native of New Orleans, Ben Smythe has always been disappointed with the spicy food in Nashville. “I recently went to the Hot Chicken Festival in Nashville and was sorely disappointed with the amount of heat people considered hot.” He recently embarked on a mission to make not only a true hot sauce, but one that was equally flavorful. Enter, Banjamin’s Elixer- a smoky hot sauce that is made from an Indian pepper known as the Ghost Pepper.  Ben’s product line features a Season-All sauce (2 oz./ 4oz), a Dry Rub (2 oz.), and for the brave,  a 100% pure pulverised Ghost Pepper (.5 oz.).  You can now get this delicious sauce at the Woodbine Farmers’ Market.

Catalina’s Own Salsa

24 Jul

The anticipation is over, Catalina’s Own Gourmet Salsa will be at the Woodbine Farmers’ Market this week.  In this sweltering heat, sometimes all you want are some chips and salsa. Catalina’s Own Salsa is made from an old secret family recipe that has been perfected over time. With fresh ingredients such as tomatoes, onions, peppers, cilantro and an array of special spices and seasonings – this salsa is sure to make your taste buds happy. Come on down this Tuesday and meet Cathie Marie and sample some of her delicious salsa.

Local Butter!

23 Jul

UNFORTUNATELY, FRENCH BARRETT WILL NOT LONGER BE SELLING DUE TO PERSONAL CONFLICTS- WE WILL MISS YOU!

Don’t let that picture confuse you, French Barrett’s butter is not made from cat’s milk. Rather is it made from locally sourced cream from Hatcher Dairy cows. As a person who reads cookbooks like novels, Wendy French found a niche making fresh butter, compounds and butter milk.  Every Sunday, she makes all her butter from scratch to sell at the Woodbine Farmers’ Market. Her delicious concoctions include:

Plain Butter- unsalted so that you can control the amount & quality of salt (for those times that you’d rather add Fleur de Sel instead of the everyday Kosher or sea salt)
Buttermilk—produced as a natural byproduct of the butter making process
Honey Cinnamon Butter Compound—made with local honey
Roasted Garlic & Thyme Butter Compound—made with thyme from my garden
Chipotle Garlic Butter Compound—a little something spicy to dress up your grilled corn on the cob

Do not fret, you now can have French Barrett butter in your fridge every week.  My dear friend’s husband who asked after buying the Chipotle butter last week, “How can we have this in our fridge at all times?!”  can now sleep in peace.
