Rain or Shine

12 Jul

RAIN OR SHINE every week

We are on for the Tuesday Market from 4-7pm. Bring your umbrella and come shop at the market. The weather will be cool, and the Farmers will be there.  Let’s show Nashville that it doesn’t matter if it’s 100 degrees outside, or raining – locals show up and support the Farmers’ Market. We have several new vendors this week so stop by and grab all your weekly favorites.

Don’t forget that you you can now park on the walking track of the park. Entrance is right off Nolensville Pike next to the SouthEast Jeep Dealership service entrance. See you there!

Where to Park?

11 Jul

Perhaps this parking system is what we need at the Community Center. Many people have voiced their concerns about not being able to find a place to park at the Market. After reading today’s Article in the Tennessean, addressing this issue, I thought I should encourage a few things.

1. Remember that we live in an urban area which means that parking is limited just about anywhere you go when you are dealing with a big event.

2. Try your best to car pool with other people in the community, make it a fun after-work event.

3. If you are able, ride your bike, walk or take the bus. There is a bus stop right outside of Coleman Park. (Loved seeing several of you ride your bike with your yoga mat around your back, so cool!)

4. Having trouble finding a parking space is a good thing, be patient and know it’s worth the wait.

5. You can now park at the gas station off Foster Ave, Action Nissan, and the old Rite Aid building at the corner of Nolensville and Thompson. Or turn into the Service Entrance into the Park off Nolensville Pike right past the South East Jeep car dealership, and you can park on the walking track between 4-7pm only. You can also park at South East Dealership. Just drive straight back through the main entrance and you can park anywhere behind the service building in the parking lot. You are also able to walk through the service garage straight to the park.

I know it’s easy to get frustrated at the end of a long work day when you can’t find a parking space, but I hope that those of you that couldn’t find one last week will give us another chance and try again. This Market is such a positive thing for the South Nashville Community and we just have to think of ourselves as a big city event in an urban setting, so parking can be a pain but we are confident it’s worth it.

Nashville Hiking Meetup

10 Jul

Being healthy and locally conscious can be the main draw for people that come to Farmers’ Markets, along with the desire to meet other people that share that same mindset.  The Nashville Hiking Meetup offers people and activities to fulfill both of these concerns. The Nashville Hiking Meetup is an outdoor adventure and eco-volunteer club that plans hiking, backpacking, camping, paddling, and biking events throughout the year ranging from easy to strenuous, local to regional. The aim of the group is to explore the natural beauty of Tennessee and beyond and to develop a social network for people with like interests. They have over 2,800 members in their group that participate in these activities all over the Metro area and beyond. They will be at the Woodbine Farmers’ Market this Tuesday to help spread the word about what they do and tell you how you can get involved.  Make sure to stop by our booth, grab a coaster and sign up!

Success

7 Jul

I am still in shock over yesterday’s Grand Opening. At the beginning of this venture, we were told that we had to find at least 4 vendors to be approved by Metro Parks and to get the support of local government representatives. Many people didn’t think that it could be done, and said that farmers were tapped out and unable to add another Market. Yesterday we had 19 local vendors and farmers and by 6pm several of them had sold out! There were several local News Channels there the day before and the day of, with stories and live footage of the event. Parents could leave their kids at the face painting and craft table to walk about and finally procure local, fresh and seasonal food. Down the hill in the shade there was a yoga class taking place, and afterwards people jammed to the Zumba class.  I think the most beautiful part however, was seeing the South Nashville Community come together. Long after things were sold out, people stuck around and chatted with old friends and even new friends. This is what building a community is about, bringing people together for something positive. I think that I can say it was a success for everyone involved. Hope to see you all there next Tuesday!
